Sourced directly from the miner, an impressive Brilliant Woodspecimen from Brilliant, Marion County, Alabama—one of the most recognizable and sought-after petrified wood localities in the United States. It\'s UV reactive, as shown in several photos.
One of this specimen\'s most fascinating features is its network of ancient termite galleries. These natural tunnels, created while the tree was still living or shortly after it fell, survived the fossilization process and are now beautifully lined with shimmering drusy quartz. The result is a striking combination of preserved wood anatomy, open crystal-lined cavities and sparkling quartz that makes every Brilliant Wood specimen completely unique.
Brilliant Wood has long been prized by collectors because the material is recovered only from a limited area around the town of Brilliant, Alabama. Unlike many classic mineral localities that produced specimens for decades through commercial mining, new examples of Brilliant Wood appear only intermittently from small private digs and landowner excavations, making quality display pieces increasingly difficult to obtain.
This specimen displays beautifully from multiple angles and features abundant sparkling quartz, preserved wood grain and impressive natural termite galleries, making it an excellent addition to any fossil, mineral, or petrified wood collection. It should be noted there was no special lighting on any of the photos or video (i.e. no studio lights or flash); just normal room lighting. The wood is naturally sparkly!
