The flint knapping art created by artist Ron Saunders, affiliated with the Native American Cherokee tribe was done in the style of the Plains Indians. "Ron Saunders from Nampa, a full blooded Cherokee Indian flaked his blades, points, arrow, and tomahawk heads in an upward pattern, not downward like most. His 25 years of crafting knife blades has given him the reputation as a uniquely-skilled "Flintknapper". He was very meticulous about the flaking patterns of his work. Some might look at his work and think he used a "flake over grind" method because they are so perfect, but I've watched him make three passes on every item he ever made. He gets his lens shape by multiple passes, not by pre-grinding. It's truly a work of art. Because Ron is no longer with us, his blades and points are even more valued and collectible and I was fortunate to know him and craft bone knife handles for some of his exceptional work."
