Saint Lawrence Figurine
Saint Lawrence was born in 225 in Huesca, Spain. He was elected by Pope Sixtus II to serve as archdeacon in Rome. He administered the church's assets, which in turn helped to meet the needs of the poor. In the year 258, Emperor Valerian decreed that all bishops, priests, and deacons should be condemned to death. Before ordering Saint Lawrence's execution, the emperor asked him where the Church's treasures were, and he showed him the poor, the sick, and the marginalized. Saint Lawrence was burned alive on a gridiron. His love for Jesus was stronger than the fire that consumed him from the outside. Saint Lawrence is usually depicted with a gridiron in one hand and a Bible in the other. His feast day is August 10th.
