Each weighs as follows: SUGAR BOWL = 19.37 ounces ~ CREAMER / MILK JUG = 10.3 ounces ~ WASTE BOWL= 11.11 ounces

DESCRIPTION: This sale features a three piece lot of Reed & Barton antique items in the collectible “Italian” pattern. These are highly detailed, elaborate in their styling, and also bear the images of Bacchus and/or the devil. In addition, there are also images of flowers and various scrollwork. The items in this sale are: 1) A lidded sugar bowl, 2) A creamer or milk jug, and 3) What I believe is likely a waste or “slop” bowl. Although I’m not necessarily a fan of the word “slop,” the waste bowl was apparently intended as a place for old tea and other discarded food items. The sugar bowl is clearly the most detailed (and largest) piece and has two ornamental handles and a lid. The lid itself bears a decorative finial at the very top. The creamer or milk jug has a single handle but is also quiteintricate. Finally, there is a waste bowl. This also bears two handles, albeit less complex than those seen on the sugar bowl. There are no monograms on any of the three items. As noted, this pattern is highly sought after — and was apparently incredibly popular even when first released. I've personally had these pieces for about a decade now and do believe they date from Victorian era (within about 10 years of the initial release of 1885).Considering the fact that finding these pieces will only become more difficult as time passes, they would make a great addition to any Reed & Barton “Italian” pattern collection.

MARKINGS:The bottom on all three pieces are marked with the following,“MF’D & PLATED BY / REED & BARTON /3340.” The only exception is the fact that the

creamer and waste bowls have the word “GILT” below the number. For whatever reason, the sugar bowl does not have this word. I find it odd this was there at all, though, as there is no gilding or gilt finish on any of the three pieces.Either way, please see pictures for the markings.

CONDITION:FAIR ~I am considering the age and use when factoring the condition rating. As all three of these items are now well over a century old, I do feel they are in Fair condition with all things considered. There is some minor usage wear seen on all pieces, but this appears mostly in the form of minor surface scratches seen all around (tops, sides, and bottoms). I will openly note that I did find a small ding or dent on the “Waste” and “Sugar” bowls (one on each piece). The dent / ding on the Waste bowl measures about 3/4” in width and 1/2” in height.The dent on the sugar bowl is slightly smaller at 3/8” in width and 1/4” in height. Although each areacan be seen and felt, I do believe an experienced silversmith could likely correct these problems relatively easily. Please note, too, that I have chosen not to downgrade the overall condition due to these small dents. That said, I’ve tried to show these exact areas in the pictures. There is definite tarnishingseen; however, I will leave any cleaning or polishing to the new owner.Although not perfect, sinceall three are now well over 125 years old, I do feel they’re doing ok with age and use considered. AGE/YEAR MADE:Research indicates the “Italian” pattern dates from the Victorian era. It had a patent date of August 19, 1884 and was formally introduced in 1885.I do believe these three pieces are from around that time, as well.

Return shipping will be paid by the buyer, though. In certain cases, I may sell an item for a close friend of family member that does not belong to me. Those are usually the only instances that I do not allow returns. I figure, if the item does not belong to me, I should allow that decision to be made by the person who does own it.
