An attractive group of early winter White Mountains photography, showing the snow-covered landscape and Mount Washington region during the formative years of White Mountains tourism.
The three stereoviews were issued by Bierstadt Brothers, the photographic firm associated with brothers Edward and Charles Bierstadt, who produced important early stereoscopic views of New England and the American landscape.
The winter setting makes this group particularly appealing. Snow-covered White Mountains scenes are considerably less typical than the familiar summer tourist views that dominate 19th-century photography of the region.
The three cards work especially well as a group, providing a small visual series of the White Mountains and Mount Washington landscape in winter.
