The 148th White House Easter Egg Roll took place on Monday, April 6, 2026, on the South Lawn of the White House. President Donald J Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, the Marine band and the White House Staff were on hand for a day of festivities honoring America\'s 250th birthday. A patriotic theme highlighted the event.
The White House Easter Egg Roll officially dates back to 1878 during the administration of President Rutherford B Hayes. Banned from rolling eggs on Capitol Grounds, a group of children bolding walked up the White House gate, hoping to be allowed to play egg-rolling games at the White House. President Hayes told his guards to let them in and soon Easter Monday became an annual tradition. Over the years, the event has incorporated a variety of activities usually planned by the First Ladies office. Pat Nixon introduced the traditional egg roll races. Nancy Reagan started the tradition of giving wooden eggs to the children attending the Easter Egg Roll at the White House.
In 2026, the White House released a 5-piece hand painted set of wooden eggs featuring patriotic hues of red, white, dark blue, light blue and gold in celebration of America\'s 250th birthday. Four eggs feature the Presidential Coat of Arms Seal, White House Easter Egg Roll and the date. The exclusive gold egg showcases the Presidential Seal. On the back of each egg are printed signatures of President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump. The set of five eggs are presented in a pastel blue specially designed window box revealing each patriotic color: The American Collection!
