2 Chinese vintage stone carved mandarin ducks resting inside a traditional box For Sale

The images features a pair of Chinese carved mandarin ducks resting inside a traditional fabric-lined presentation box.Mandarian Ducks SymbolismIn Chinese culture, mandarin ducks (yuanyang) are a famous and powerful symbol of love, lifelong fidelity, and marital bliss. Because these ducks mate for life, a pair of figurines is traditionally given as a wedding or anniversary gift to wish a couple a happy, enduring marriage.Materials and Presentation

• Stone Material: These ducks appear to be hand-carved from a variety of Chinese hardstone or soapstone, showing beautiful natural veining and variations in color.
• Packaging: They are nestled inside a traditional Chinese red silk or brocade gift box lined with yellow satin, a setup classic for decorative stone carvings and jade gifts exported or sold throughout the 20th century.

Material & Color Variations

• Jade or Jadeite Properties: The stone displays a beautiful mix of deep olive green and lighter mossy-green inclusions, highly characteristic of certain types of Chinese serpentine jade or jadeite.
• Natural Luster: The surface shows a smooth, semi-glossy polish that catches the light naturally without looking artificially lacquered.

Carving details

• Stylized Plumage: The feathers are deeply grooved with stylized, sweeping parallel lines along the breast and wings.
• Mandarin Duck Traits: The prominent crest rising from the back of the head and the distinctively raised "sail feathers" near the tail clearly identify this as the male mandarin duck.
• Traditional Hand-Carving: The incised details—such as the leaf-like patterns along the body and the round, concentric rings defining the eyes—are typical of 20th-century Chinese folk art stone carvings.

• ront Profile and Symmetry: From this angle, you can see the wide, rounded chest and the forward-facing head position. The two small, dark drill holes at the front neatly define the nostrils on the beak.
• Complex Topography: Looking from front to back, the high, vertical layers of the wings and the prominent upright crest are fully visible. The carver deeply recessed the center area between the head and the wings to create distinct, layered sections.
• Stone Matrix: The dark, mottled patches of black, brown, and deep olive are tightly concentrated on the chest. This highlights how the artisan cleverly utilized the natural variations within the stone block to give the bird a unique color distribution.
