For sale is a wonderful pair of rare, vintage satirical "talking plates" (assiettes parlantes) produced by the renowned Boch Frères factory in La Louvière, Belgium. These plates come from the highly collectible "Les Sports" transferware series.
This specific piece is titled "L'Automobile" and humorously depicts an early open-top veteran motorcar scattering a flock of terrified geese in a village. The French satirical caption text at the bottom reads: "Tous ensemble: ...oh! les sales bêtes!!!" (All together: ...oh! the dirty beasts!!!).
The backs display the authentic circular ink backstamp showing the Hainaut crowned lion shield alongside "MADE IN BELGIUM - BOCH Fes LA LOUVIERE", as well as early incised tracking mold marks in the clay body.
**Condition:**
