Second Empire French Marble and Enameled Gilt Desk Set
EXCEPTIONAL Second Empire French white marble andenameled gilt metal desk set consisting of a letter holder with inkwells, blotter, scales, and paperweight. The inkstand and letter rack are decorated with gilt foliate swags, ribbon handles, and a gilt framedbeautifully-detailedenameled miniatureportrait of a woman between the pen rests and ink pots. The blotter is the roll type and the paper-weight is decorated with gilt frame; both having gilt-edged enameled miniatures. The pair of scales also with a miniatureenameledportraitinset on the base with gold decoration.
Late 19th century French, typical of wares sold on the Rue Rivoli in Paris at this period.
