19th Century Our Lady of Sorrows Santo | Hand-Carved & Polychromed Wood Sculpture
A beautiful19th-century hand-carved wooden santodepictingOur Lady of Sorrows (La Dolorosa), one of the most beloved devotional figures in Catholic tradition. With her hands crossed over her heart and a serene, contemplative expression, this sculpture beautifully captures the Virgin Mary\'s quiet sorrow and steadfast faith.
Expertly carved from wood and retaining its original hand-painted polychrome finish, the figure displays the warmth, character, and craftsmanship collectors seek in authentic nineteenth-century devotional sculpture. Her softly modeled face, expressive eyes, and gracefully draped garments give the piece a peaceful presence, making it equally at home in a devotional setting or an antique collection.
The sculpture retainsoriginal mounting holes and evidence of historic devotional attachments, preserving an important part of its history. These openings suggest the figure was once enhanced with decorative metal elements, a common feature of antique santos, though the original adornments are no longer present.
