There are decorative objects…
and then there are objects that feel like they were meant to sit beneath a frescoed ceiling.
This substantial 19th-century French Renaissance Revival ewer is cast in richly detailed gilt bronze and rises approximately 20 inches in height. It is unapologetically theatrical — wrapped in grapevine garlands, high relief dancing cherubs, and classical ornament throughout.
The body features a continuous frieze of animated putti in motion, set against a darkened ground that enhances the depth and contrast of the gilded figures. The lower section is encircled with bold acanthus leaf ornament, rising to a deeply chased neck and dramatic handle formed with scrolling foliate and figural detail.
The form is architectural.
The surface shows honest wear and patina consistent with age.
The weight is substantial.
This is not a hollow decorative casting. It is heavy, solid, and commanding — a centerpiece object rather than a subtle accent.
