An elegant late 19th-century French porcelain allegorical group by Edmé Samson et Cie, Paris, representing the Altar of Love.
The Rococo-style composition depicts two classically dressed maidens crowned with applied flowers approaching two winged putti presenting a shallow offering dish above a cloud-form altar and marbleized pedestal.
The figures are finely modeled and hand-painted in soft colors with floral decoration and gilt accents. The oval base is enriched with a painted landscape, gilt borders, and a molded frieze of raised gilt dots.
Marked to the underside in underglaze blue with the Samson crossed-twigs-and-S mark, executed in imitation of the Meissen crossed-swords mark.
