1990 Prince Hans-Adam II of Liechtenstein Signed Mourning Card Reigning Monarch:
$150.00

For your consideration is an original birthday acknowledgment card personally signed by His Serene Highness Prince Hans-Adam II of Liechtenstein (born 1945), Reigning Prince of Liechtenstein, issued on the formal stationery of the Princely House. Measuring approximately 4.0 by 5.75 inches, the card is printed on substantial cream stock with elegantly deckled edges and bears at the head the finely blind-embossed armorial achievement of the sovereign House of Liechtenstein, surmounted by the princely crown and framed by the traditional mantle. Beneath appears the printed court formula, Many thanks for your kind wishes on the occasion of my birthday. The acknowledgment is completed by Hans-Adam IIs bold manuscript signature in blue ink, making this a personally signed sovereign-house response rather than an unsigned or facsimile court communication. Hans-Adam II, Prince of Liechtenstein, succeeded his father, Prince Franz Josef II, in 1989 as head of state and head of one of Europes oldest surviving sovereign princely houses.

The House of Liechtenstein traces its documented origins to the medieval nobility of Central Europe and rose to princely rank within the Holy Roman Empire before acquiring the lordships of Schellenberg and Vaduz, territories that became the modern Principality of Liechtenstein. Hans-Adam II occupies a distinctive position among contemporary European monarchs as the sovereign of an independent hereditary principality whose ruling family has maintained an unusually direct institutional and dynastic continuity into the modern era. The card consequently represents correspondence not merely from a titled aristocrat, but from the reigning sovereign of a European state.

The blind-embossed princely arms are central to the objects significance. The composite shield incorporates the historic territorial and dynastic arms associated with the House of Liechtenstein and is presented beneath the insignia of princely rank, identifying the stationery unequivocally with the sovereign household. The restrained typography, heavy paper, deckled manufacture, and formal wording are consistent with traditional European court correspondence, while the handwritten blue autograph provides the personal element that distinguishes the present card from standardized palace stationery. The text specifically identifies the occasion as the Princes birthday, allowing the card to be classified securely as an official birthday acknowledgment issued by Hans-Adam II in his capacity as reigning Prince.

The card remains in very good original condition, with crisp heraldic embossing, clean printed text, strong paper texture, intact deckled margins, and a clear, prominently placed blue-ink signature. Minor handling is consistent with genuine correspondence and does not detract from the presentation. A refined and highly representative example of modern European sovereign correspondence, combining the autograph of the reigning Prince of Liechtenstein, formal princely heraldry, and official court stationery from one of Europes surviving sovereign dynasties.
