The brochure features Shay steam locomotives, historic railroad photographs, information on the former logging railroad, a route/location map, and details about the railroad attractions.
Promoted features include:
- Shay steam locomotives
- Historic 1899 car and locomotive shops
- Railroad logging museum
- Color logging movies
- Party and picnic facilities
- Authentic narrow-gauge logging railroad rides
The brochure identifies the operation as a division of Pickering Lumber Corporation and describes the railroad as originating with the West Side Lumber Company, whose logging railway was constructed beginning in 1897–1899.
This appears to be the 1971 version of the brochure; an archival example of this same West Side & Cherry Valley Railway brochure is dated September 4, 1971.
The West Side & Cherry Valley Railway was a short-lived tourist operation created to preserve and operate a portion of the former West Side logging railroad. Historical sources indicate the tourist operation began around 1968 and operated into the early 1970s.
A great piece of California railroad, logging, steam locomotive, Tuolumne County, and Gold Rush-era tourism ephemera.
