1970\'s Vintage Hand Dyed Cotton Batik Slendang (Selendang) and Batik Sarong Java For Sale

1970's Vintage Hand Dyed Cotton Batik Slendang (Selendang), Java. A narrow length of cotton fabric used as a shoulder cloth, hand dyed in two colors of beige and blue painted over a wax resist design, created by a combination of tjaps (batik stamps) and hand drawn canting for the frame and the repeat floral lozenge pattern. The borders have traditional triangular designs. Condition: Minor signs of wear and use, otherwise fine. 20th Century.The Beautiful vintage Indonesian Batik sarong is from Solo, one of the ancient batik producing cities in Java. It was made with a tool called tjanting, instead of stamped or printing. Every dot and line were hand drawn in wax individually and then dyed, boiled, rewaxed and the process was repeated. It is in the Peacock (symbol of love) and floral and fauna design. Size: 40" x 90" - THERE IS A TEAR IN THIS FABRIC (See Pictures) 9.5 inches in from side and 20"inches from end - this still gives you 70 beautiful inches and is why I am including BOTH items for the price of ONE.I bought both textiles in an antique store in Java, Indonesia on a trip to Southeast Asia in 1996.
