Robert Schumann
Robert Schumann is a German composer, teacher and influential music critic. He is widely known as one of the most outstanding composers of the Romantic era.
He was born on June 8, 1810 in Zwickau to a family of book publishers. He studied piano at the age of 7 and made his first public appearance as a pianist in 1821.
In the early 1830s, after injuring his right hand while playing the piano, he was forced to abandon his artistic career and focus on composition.
Until 1840, all of Schumann's works were written exclusively for the piano. Later, many songs, four symphonies, an opera and other orchestral, choral and chamber works were published.
As a music critic, Schumann spoke out against the emptiness of virtuoso salon music and called for the study of the legacy of the old masters, in particular J. S. Bach.
In 1843–1844, he taught at the Leipzig Conservatory. From 1844 he lived in Dresden, where he directed subscription concerts and a male choral society.
He died on July 29, 1856 in Endenich (near that happens in the world leaves a trace in me. I think about everything in my own way, and my thoughts are reflected in my music" - a quote from the German composer Robert Schumann.Approx. size:4,1" x 5.9" (10 x 15 cm)
