1959 Press Photo Chinese Refugees live as \"Floating Population\" in Hong Kong For Sale

1959 Vintage Press Photo by ASSOCIATED PRESS.Among population experts, \"floating population\" generally describes people on the move. Here, in Hong Kong, it is a literal description. The flood of refugees from Red China has choked the already crowded area and many coolie-class Chinese have been forced to live aboard old, unseaworthy junks. The floating population around Hong Kong has been estimated at 100,000. Here is the scene on the Hong Kong side of the harbor. Many of these Chinese work in factories, shipyards and at other short jobs. These conditions are being exploited by the Red Chinese to woo all Asians into the Communist orbit.Photo is Dated: June 9, 1959.
