Original Vintage 1950s Desert Inn Restaurant Menu 950 West Van Buren Street Phoenix Arizona
The Desert Inn was a mid-century motor hotel at 950 West Van Buren Street in Phoenix, on old U.S. Route 80, part of the Van Buren Street motel strip that boomed in the 1940s and 1950s. Its postcard advertising touted roughly 80 rooms \"in the heart of the city,\" refrigerated air conditioning, \"excellent food\" from a coffee shop and dining room, a cocktail lounge, and one of the most beautiful swimming pools in Phoenix, and it was affiliated with the El Rancho Motor Hotels in Yuma, Arizona and Needles, California. As freeways bypassed the strip and national chains drew business to the interchanges, the Desert Inn declined and later closed; its site is now occupied by a Holiday Inn Express & Suites.
