1945 Original Press Photo by CONSOLIDATED VULTEE AIRCRAFT CORP.Here is a model of the giant 204 passenger Consolidated Vultee airplane, largest yet proposed. Pan American World Airways has ordered a fleet of these huge clippers each of which will carry 204 passengers and 15,300 pounds of baggage, mail and express. New York to London will be a trip of about 9 hours with cruising speeds of 310 to 342 miles per hour.The airplane will be twelve times the size of present standard twin engined commercial aircraft in the United States. It is 182 feet long and has a wing span of 230 feet, equal to the height of a 21 story building.The six engines will produce power equivalent to 353 average automobile engines.It has two decks with luxurious accommodations for passengers and crew.Photo is Dated: February 26, 1945.
