Description
Original Detroit Times EXTRA, dated Monday, May 7, 1945, featuring the dramatic front-page headline:
“Nazi Radio Announces: ALL GERMANS SURRENDER!”
Published as news of Germany’s unconditional surrender was reaching the world at the end of World War II in Europe.
The front page includes reports concerning the surrender of German forces, Germany’s U-boat fleet being ordered home, preparations for the V-E announcement and other breaking wartime news.
This is the front section only and not the complete newspaper. Most of the significant WWII surrender coverage is on the front page, with other period news, photographs and advertisements appearing on the interior pages.
A striking original WWII newspaper with an unusually bold red-and-black surrender headline that displays beautifully despite its age and condition.
Condition notes: This original 1945 newsprint is approximately 81 years old and is fragile. There are tears, edge losses, separation/wear at the spine and folds, creasing and overall age toning. No repairs have been made. Please use the photographs as an important part of the condition description.
