Original WWII-era real-photo postcard featuring an African American U.S. Navy sailor in his white uniform.
The front is personally inscribed “To Susie, Bill” and includes an additional handwritten signature or inscription dated August 20, 1944. The postcard-style reverse contains extensive period handwriting, including affectionate messages, names and notes. Portions of the writing are crossed out or difficult to decipher.
This is an authentic vintage photograph—not a modern reproduction. A particularly expressive piece of African American, U.S. Navy and WWII social history.
Condition: Vintage pre-owned condition with age-related toning, surface marks, staining, ink marks, edge wear and rounded or worn corners. Writing appears on both the front and reverse. Please examine all photographs carefully for the exact condition and inscriptions.
The item shown is the exact photograph the buyer will receive. It will be placed in a protective sleeve and shipped securely between rigid boards.
