Original group of WWII correspondence consisting of the letters and envelopes shown in the photographs only. This archive centers on O. H. (Jack) Currier, serving at Pearl Harbor, Territory of Hawaii, aboard the U.S.S. Gridley and later at the U.S. Naval Hospital, Ward A-II, writing to his wife Mrs. O. H. Currier in San Diego, California during 1941, just months before the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Included are handwritten letters and their original Air Mail envelopes postmarked from Pearl Harbor between July and September 1941. Several envelopes identify Currier aboard the U.S.S. Gridley (DD-380), while later correspondence originates from Ward A-II, U.S. Naval Hospital, Pearl Harbor. The heartfelt letters discuss Navy life, illness and hospitalization, family matters, travel plans, their son Jackie, employment, housing, hopes of bringing his wife to Hawaii, and his desire to return home. One envelope retains the colorful Air Mail format used for Pacific correspondence.
Also included is a 1942 vaccination/immunization card issued to Mrs. Lucille Currier, documenting smallpox and typhoid inoculations at Submarine Base, Pearl Harbor, T.H., along with a small handwritten note signed \"Owen Phil Currier.\"
