1941 Original Photo by US ARMY SIGNAL CORPS Major General Bruce Magruder, Commanding General of the 1st Armored Division and the Post of Fort Knox, Kentucky, cut the tape marking the formal opening of the Louisville Service Club for Men of the United States Armed Forces. Left to right: Mr. Andrew Broaddus, Chairman of the Military Affairs Committee of the City of Louisville; Honorable Joseph Scholtz, Mayor of the city of Louisville; Private Edwin Kellay of Company 6, 6th Infantry (Armored) of the 1st Armored Division at Fort Knox; General Magruder; and Governor Keen Johnson, Chief Executive of the State of Kentucky. Andrew Broaddus was Mayor of Louisville, Kentucky from December 1953 to December 1957. He was born and died in Louisville. Joseph Denunzio Scholtz was Mayor of Louisville, Kentucky from 1937 to 1941. He graduated from DuPont Manual High School, then Cornell University in 1912. Keen Johnson was the 45th Governor of Kentucky, serving from 1939 to 1943; being the only journalist to have held that office. After serving in World War I, Johnson purchased and edited the Elizabethtown Mirror newspaper.
