Didn’t notice when we bought it until today. Me and my daughter are getting rid of toys she’s outgrown so we can donate them to other kids who could use them more.
After some research and getting some closer insight from my grandpa who served in the military for many many years.
What we thought was a nice piece to store the kids toys ends up being a piece of history. In great, rock-solid structural condition.
• Hardware: The front latches are fully intact, completely functional, and the trunk closes securely.
• Paint/Finish: The trunk was previously painted black when we got it and thought what a nice piece for the kids toy storage. However, a test scratch has revealed that the original factory olive drab green military paint is fully intact directly underneath the black layer! high-grade brass plating and solid copper/brass rivets with the lettering reading “W-28-021-QM-
45045 (War Department / Quartermaster
Corps)”
The inside is completely original and untouched. It features the factory-applied olive drab green finish and explicitly retains the original 1940 WWII military packing list/inspection paper remnants glued to the inner lid (showing fragments of the original field checklist header and sergeant signature lines).
retains remnants of the original WWIl inspection/packing paper on the inside lid.
The left text reads: "ANY OF BELOW LISTED ARTICLES", which was the introductory header for the official field gear checklist.
• The right text reads: "SERGEANT", which likely marked the signature line where a commanding sergeant or inspector signed off on the kit contents.
