Original January 21, 1936 testimonial dinner program honoring Hon. Edward W. Kenney, Mayor of Woburn, Massachusetts. Measures approximately 8 x 10 inches and retains its original ribbon binding.

The program was issued for a banquet held at the State Armory, Woburn, celebrating Mayor Kenney\'s administration. The back cover bears \"Sincerely yours, Edward W. Kenney.\" Based on the photographs, we cannot determine whether this is an original handwritten signature or a printed facsimile, so buyers should examine the photos and make their own determination.

The printed guest list includes many prominent Massachusetts political figures, including:

  • Governor James M. Curley
  • Lieutenant Governor Joseph L. Hurley
  • Attorney General Paul A. Dever
  • Treasurer and Receiver-General Charles F. Hurley
  • Numerous judges, mayors, legislators, military officers, and civic leaders from across the Commonwealth.

Also includes:

  • Complete dinner menu.

Of additional interest, the committee roster lists John P. Connolly as Treasurer, linking this program to the larger John P. Connolly political estate of Woburn, Massachusetts, from which it was acquired.

John P. Connolly of Woburn, Massachusetts (Working Biography)

John Philip. Connolly was born in Massachusetts about 1895–1896, the son of Irish immigrants Coleman and Mary Connolly. He spent much of his life in Woburn, Massachusetts, where he became active in civic affairs and local politics.

By 1930, Connolly was living with his father, Coleman Connolly, on Main Street in Woburn. The household also included his brother Joseph E. Connolly, Joseph\'s wife Ethel, and their young sons, Joseph V. Connolly and one-year-old John P. \"Buddy\" Connolly, demonstrating that the future local public official grew up in the same multigenerational family home.

The 1930 federal census identifies John P. Connolly as a telephone company clerk and records him as a veteran of the World War, confirming military service during World War I. Family records preserved in this archive further indicate that he also participated in World War II, making his surviving papers and photographs particularly significant for documenting two periods of American military history.

Beyond his military service, Connolly was active in Woburn politics. The archive contains campaign material, political photographs, correspondence, and civic records that document his role in municipal government and his involvement in local public affairs. As additional groups from the archive are examined, these materials should help establish the offices he sought or held, the dates of his campaigns, and his contributions to Woburn\'s political history.

The Connolly archive extends well beyond John P. Connolly himself. It preserves the history of several generations of the family, including World War I photographs, World War II material, the later public career of his nephew John P. \"Buddy\" Connolly (1928–2008), and a Vietnam-era military scrapbook belonging to another family member. Together, the collection offers an unusually complete record of one Woburn family\'s military, political, and civic life across much of the twentieth century.
