1930’s Pink Roses on Cream Glen Court Hollywood Regency Barkcloth Vintage Fabric For Sale

This offering is for ONE ready to hang drapery panel...I have SIX available sold individually!!! A crazy rare cookie to come across 85+ years later. I have the unique ability to take you on a textile tour back in time...to many of the places I’ve jaunted...turn of the century mansions...and so many stories...good and sad...none more memorable than the seat sale where I bought these draperies...it was a huge 5000 sq ft 1800’s mansion in Shrewsbury NJ. It had all the bells and whistles of something grand...you could see through the run down ness of it that she was loved...cared for as best they could in harrowing times of aging. The three floors chock full of original untouchedness...bedrooms still in order...a cedar closet filled with linens..cubby spaces rife with 50’s Christmas decorations...a gift wrapping cubby. It was as if life stopped after the 50’s. And as aging settled in...so did the need for sleeping accommodations on the first floor...a bed in the parlor...a makeshift bathroom in the kitchen probably from the 70’s. It was as grand as grand could be. On the second floor a bedroom in true baroque shabby chic...Dorothy Draper would have gone gaga in that house! These draperies hung still after all those years on the original windows...almost waiting for me to arrive to save them. The owner a 99 year old woman...with a angled postured spine from years of scoliosis...she sat at the door with the hosts of her own estate sale...she watched ever sale...every thing that left her home almost as a condition of the sale. I bought these six draperies right off the window...and she was more surprised I was a man than anything and just couldn’t seem to grasp my love for them...we chatted for about 30 minutes...because that is how I roll as a child of parents who volunteered in nursing homes...and her story was sad..but she was fulfilled. She was the only one left...she had a granddaughter who took her under her wing and she was moving to an assisted living facility. It was both sad and moving...and had me so attached to these draperies that I savored them for 25 years in bins...attached to my own sense of preservation and carrying the torch for the original owner who is long gone...in some small way preserving her memories...her children...grandchildren...and a life of a house she tried to save til the end. Today I have finally unearthed these draperies and I am ready to part. They are privileged you know...they are Glen Court...one of the most profound patterns of textile history coming out of the Hollywood Glam era. A thick and nubby creamy white ground with leafy stripes...glorious roses...a colorway right out of Hollywood Glam...lush pinks...raspberry...merlot...deep dark chocolate...periwinkle...varied aqua jadeite greens...chartreuse...and creamy charcoal grays. Each panel measures 23 inches at pleats...44 inches wide at bottom width and 88 inches long. And for as long as they hung in that bedroom...they are flawless...unused looking...washed 25 years ago and put away...so expect more like a brand new experience of vintage. More so these deserve to go to someone special...another bearer of the torch who will honor their legacy.I take returns...but who wants totake a return right?
