The reason for this is said to be a man who jostled her at a ball. There were words, Mistinguett became angry and slapped his face.
Slapping a Frenchman's face means but one thing. The man's wife is said to have challenged the artist, and now all Paris waits.
So does the press agent wait for clippings.Mademoiselle Mistinguett (Jeanne Florentine Bourgeois) was absolute royalty in the French entertainment world, famous for her flamboyant costumes, captivating stage presence, and, of course, her legendary legs—which she truly did insure for 500,000 francs (often publicized as a million dollars in America) in 1919.
