Up for sale is a beautiful, highly collectible piece of Kentucky history and fraternal militaria. This is an original commemorative medal from the 5th Annual State Convention of the American Legion, held in Ashland, KY from Sept. 3-5, 1923.
The design features a coal hopper and industrial ship, embossed with the historic Ashland slogans: "Where Coal Meets Iron" and "Steel".
The medal is in vintage condition, exhibiting a naturally aged patina with characteristic darkening and minor surface tarnish. The original tri-color ribbon remains intact but shows age-related discoloration and light soiling.
