This phonograph is in very nice overall condition for its one hundred-plus years with no damage and relatively little wearpresent. The entire cabinet, including the lid, looks excellent from all angles, and the interior has shining metal and aglossy mahogany finish. We are not experts in these, so what was observed during a close inspection and a simpletest is detailed. Top to bottom: The top surface of the lid looks very good overall. There is a spot that is slightlyduller than the rest located on the left side, toward the front, and the rest is fine. The logo on the underside isspotless, and save for a few light blemishes, the glossy finish on the rest of this area looks good. The lidprop functions properly and is free of corrosion, and the hinges are in the same state. The finish of theinterior deck has a little wear to the finish in spots, but it looks good overall. The reproducer looks tobe in good shape, and the goose neck arm moves as it should, up and down, left and right. The felton the platen is worn, mainly near the outer edges, and the platen itself is fine. The motor board isin nice condition overall with some faint scratches but no damage or corrosion to be found, andthe four needle cups are in excellent shape. The motor runs smoothly, with a little noise that isprobably normal. The phonograph was tested with a modern record, and it produced the sound itshould, emanating from the front of the unit, which indicated that the reproducer was functioningproperly. The speed control lever is stuck in the middle position, and there was no attempt at forcingit for fear of doing damage. The start/stop lever at the front of the platen functions as it should. The entireexterior of the cabinet is very nice. The front has a small ding on the bottom edge of the lid 1/4 from the left,another on the lid toward the right, and a couple small blemishes at the base. The louvers look and function fine,and the interior beyond them is good, save for some blemishes at the top. The right side is excellent, and the crankhandle and louver control knob look good and function properly. The brass knob is most likely a replacement as it looksnew. There is what appears to be a fine crack on the left side, but after a close look, it was determined that it is part of themake up of the piece. The back side is also in fine shape with no issues to report. The bottom of the unit is free of any damage,moisture or otherwise. The bottom board was removed to expose the motor and horn throat, and they look to be in the conditionthey ought to be. Included are many needles, all in good, usable condition.
