Offered here is an original 1919 real photo postcard showing the Libby, McNeill & Libby cannery in Waupun, Wisconsin. The crisp industrial view captures the expansive multi-story brick complex with its distinctive crenellated roofline, long rows of factory windows, the covered loading shed, and the plant’s tall smokestack rising at right.
Waupun’s Libby plant was one of the company’s important early 20th-century vegetable-processing facilities, part of the nationwide network operated by Libby, McNeill & Libby—at the time one of America’s major canning companies known for peas, corn, beans, meats, and fruit products. Industrial views of this factory are not common, making this an appealing card for collectors of Wisconsin history, canning industry ephemera, and early American manufacturing.
The postcard is printed on KRUXO photographic stock and is postmarked Waupun, Wis., May 13, 1919, addressed to Bureau, Illinois. The message indicates the sender had recently arrived and settled in Waupun, consistent with seasonal employment common at the plant.
Condition:
Good condition with light surface wear, scattered small marks, and mild toning. Corner and edge wear are visible. The reverse shows handwriting, a clear 1919 postmark, and postal handling marks.Heavy crease to left side with small tear.
