The History about this piece ✨ shortly after returning home from Europe, a World War I veteran named Joseph W Breen and his 15 fellow prominent members of the newly formed American Legion met in Philadelphia. They wanted to create a highly elite, invitation only " Honor society" within the legion that recognized top leaders and dedicated veterans. They officially named it La Societe des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux ( The Society of 40 Men And Eight Horses ), or the " 40 and Eight" for short.
The imagery on the metal stem from a universally hated, miserable experience shared by nearly every American " Doughboy" infantry man slipped into the front lines in France.
The boxcars: the French rail system transported troops to the trenches in camp, narrow - Gauge wooden box cars
The Stencil: painted plainly on the exterior of every car was a capacity warning l: "40 Hommes / 8 Chevaux ". This meant the car was ready to hold exactly 40 tightly comfortable packed men OR eight horses.
Let's honor not just the men but all of the horses that passed away during this horrible War.
The rarity of this metal makes it highly sort after due to the fact that it is stamped Sterling on the back. I guarantee it is authentic. While standard everyday members were issued cheap brass, copper, or bronze versions of this medal, sterling silver medals specially commissioned. They were traditionally manufactured by Union Jewelers. - frequent release stamped I.J.W.U. for the international jewelry worker Union on the reverse side- and we're a reserved as premium variations or awarded to society officers. This medal badge is a great post-war remembrance and this piece is around 106 years old making it an Antique! Sold as is!

Please keep in mind that this is an Antique Now, 106 yrs Old, I am selling it in the Box that I acquired it in. I do not know how old the box is I do not know if it's original. I'm just going to let it go to the new buyer the same way I acquired it! I believe it should go to the right person!
