Located in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the Sorrentine Peninsula, the island of Capri has been a celebrated resort destination since the era of the Roman Republic, known for its rugged landscape and steep coastal cliffs. Because Capri is an island, outgoing mail was typically routed through Naples (Napoli), the regional capital and major port city on the mainland. The Napoli postmark on this card reflects that standard transit route for international mail leaving the island for the United States.

This card is a representative example for collectors of classic Italian Mediterranean views, early 20th-century European travel ephemera, or regional postal history.
