Brannam pottery was established in Barnstaple, Devon byThomas Brannam, but it was Charles Hubert Brannam, Thomas\'s son, who moved the company into art pottery succeeding in securing Liberty of London as a client.Brannam adopted \'Barum\', the Roman name for Barnstaple, for this production, which by the 1890s included sgraffito, trailed slip (liquid clay), carved and applied ornament and deep-coloured glazes, especially blue and green.
