Original 1865 Stoughton Branch Railroad way bill documenting freight forwarded from boston, ma to easton, ma, dated April 21, 1865. Measures approximately 8.5 x 12 inches. Printed railroad form completed in manuscript with detailed freight entries, consignee names, weights, freight charges, and a lengthy handwritten notation across the bottom margin.
The freight includes a wide assortment of merchandise including oats, flour, oil, butter, lead, brooms, wheelbarrow, laths, sugar, paper, brushes, handles, boxes, and other commercial goods, providing an interesting snapshot of post-Civil War railroad freight traffic in Massachusetts. The extended handwritten operational note at the bottom adds additional research interest beyond the standard freight entries.
