Original period Columbia Motor Car Company automobile advertising poster featuring artwork by noted illustrator George Gibbs, dating to circa 1910.

The image depicts an early Columbia touring automobile outside the Red Lion, with chauffeur, passengers and dog. Advertising text below begins “The Columbia is a car of a thousand excellencies” and identifies The Columbia Motor Car Company, Hartford, Connecticut, with “Licensed Under Selden Patent” at the bottom. A faint George Gibbs credit remains visible along the lower portion.

The original printed advertising piece was later decoratively cut around the edges, mounted to a shaped wooden wall board and sealed/lacquered in 1973. The reverse is inscribed “R. Jacobus 73.” This later treatment permanently altered the original paper but also created the large wall display seen today.

Overall wooden display measures approximately 36 x 24 inches. Surviving printed advertising area is approximately 27 x 20 inches at its widest points; this is not the original sheet size because the perimeter was cut when mounted.

Condition shows substantial age and alteration, including irregular/cut paper edges, edge losses, tears, discoloration, surface wear and the later applied coating. Please examine photographs closely for condition and construction.

A substantial surviving example of early Columbia Motor Car Company advertising with George Gibbs artwork, presented as a large period automobile wall display.
