🫒 RARE BELLEVIEW OLIVE OIL TIN | STILL SEALED & FULL | FASCINATING NEW YORK HISTORY 🗽
This is one of the more interesting early food advertising pieces I’ve come across.
Offered here is an original Belleview Pure Olive Oil 1 Pint lithographed tin, distributed by Rome Importing Co., New York, N.Y.
⭐ Even more remarkably, the tin appears to have never been opened and remains FULL with its original contents.
I have been unable to locate another identical Belleview / Rome Importing Co. one-pint tin during my research.
📜 THE HISTORY
Research into the company revealed a fascinating historical paper trail.
Rome Importing Co. of New York was a documented olive oil importer and distributor operating more than a century ago.
Federal Food and Drug Act records document Rome Importing Co. in connection with interstate shipments of olive oil as early as 1919, with additional federal cases involving the company during the 1920s and 1930s.
Later historical records establish Belleview Olive Oil as a commercially sold New York brand during the 1940s.
That makes the Belleview / Rome Importing Co. combination found on this particular tin especially interesting.
🔎 How old is it?
The exact manufacturing date of this tin has not been definitively established, so I am not representing it as being from a specific year.
However, the documented history of Rome Importing Co., the period packaging and construction, and later records concerning the Belleview brand indicate that this is a genuinely early piece of New York and Italian-American food advertising history.
Given that Rome Importing Co. was documented dealing in olive oil more than 100 years ago, researching this particular survivor has been fascinating.
🫒 GREAT ORIGINAL LABEL DETAILS
The colorful lithographed tin features:
* BELLEVIEW
* MARCA BELLEVIEW
* PURE OLIVE OIL / OLIO D’OLIVA
* IMPORTED / IMPORTATO
* Rome Importing Co., Distributors, New York, N.Y.
* English and Italian advertising panels
* 1 PINT marking
* Beautiful early olive branch and architectural artwork
One of my favorite details is the period advertising statement printed directly on the tin:
“GUARANTEED TO BE ABSOLUTELY PURE UNDER ANY CHEMICAL ANALYSIS”
Along with:
“HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR TABLE AND MEDICINAL USE.”
Those statements are fantastic examples of how imported olive oil was marketed to American consumers during the early 20th century.
🔒 STILL SEALED & FULL
Perhaps the coolest feature of this particular example is that it appears to have survived all these years without ever being opened.
The tin remains FULL and appears to contain its original contents.
It has NOT been opened, punctured, drained or otherwise disturbed to inspect or verify what remains inside.
⚠️ THE CONTENTS ARE NOT INTENDED FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION.
The original contents are being sold strictly as part of this collectible historical object.
🔍 CONDITION
Please study all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the description.
This is an old metal food container and shows expected age-related wear, including surface oxidation/rust, discoloration, scratches and wear to the lithographed finish.
Despite its age, the Belleview graphics, colors and lettering remain remarkably attractive and readable.
I have NOT attempted to clean, polish, restore, open or otherwise alter the tin.
It remains exactly as I found it.
The tin will be carefully packed to help protect the container and its original graphics during shipment.
🏆 A VERY COOL SURVIVOR
Whether you collect antique advertising tins, early grocery packaging, olive oil memorabilia, New York history, Italian-American history, immigrant business artifacts, country store advertising, or vintage kitchen advertising, this is an unusual piece.
The combination of:
🫒 Belleview lithographed advertising
🗽 Documented New York importer history
🇮🇹 Bilingual Italian / English labeling
📜 Rome Importing Co. history dating back more than a century
🔒 Apparently unopened condition
⭐ Original contents still inside
…makes this an especially interesting survivor to research and display.
I have been unable to find another identical example during my research.
📦 It is being offered exactly as found and will be carefully packaged for its next owner.
