🔥 Very RARE Raymond DISNEY Advertisement Sign Ashtray, 1940s - Brother of Walt:
$2750.00

This is a never before seen andVery RARE Raymond A. DISNEY Advertisement Sign Ashtray, acquired from the deceased estate of a serious Disney collector, who worked as an accountant for Disneyland for decades, from its inception in the 1950's. This piece reads: "Raymond A. Disney...Insurance Broker...Hartford Insurance," with the image of a large elk and a mountain range in the center of the medallion. Raymond A. Disney (older brother of Walt,) started his own insurance company in Chicago, Illinois, and brought the company west to Los Angeles, California upon the success of his younger brother. At some point during the late 1930's - early 1940's, Raymond actually sold a life insurance policy to his brother Walt. This insurance policy was used as collateral to raise cash in 1952, in order to build Disneyland in 1955. In Photo 13, he is the gentleman who is standing in the back on the left side (Walt is seated, on the far right.) This item is approximately 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches, and 5/8 of an inch tall. Very good condition for age, with some light scuffing and edge wear from age and use. The decal logo is in pristine condition. This was likely a personal gift from Raymond to the deceased former collector, since he was an early accountant for Disneyland, they probably interacted quite a bit. Priced to Sell. According to my extensive research, this is the only piece of Raymond A. Disney memorabilia to ever be offered for sale, anywhere, ever. You will not see another one of these in your lifetime. Acquired in Los Angeles County, California. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer. Please check out my other listings for more wonderful and unique items!
About Raymond A. Disney (1890 - 1989):
On this day, December 30th, in 1890, Raymond Disney was born to Elias and Flora Disney.Raymond wasthe second of four boys and one daughter. Brother Walt would not be born for another 13 years. Kaye Malins, who currently lives in the Disney house in Marceline, Missouri, recently told us more about Raymond. “Most what I know about Raymond I learned from his sister Ruth and niece Carol. However, in the (Walt Disney Hometown) Museum we have a recording of Walt interviewing his parents on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. In the recording, Walt asked his parents how they decided on the names for their children. Flora makes it very clear that she did not name her son Ray, she named him Raymond. Raymond Disney never married and was an insurance salesman his entire life, and for a time sold insurance to Disney employees at the studio. Raymond enjoyed the celebrity of his brothers Walter and Roy and attended events at both Disneyland and the Studio. He was active in the Shrine organization and upon his death left a significant donation to the Shriners Children’s burn centers. Raymond’s donation to the Shriners hospital was publicly recognized years later. In 2001, in Marceline, the Shrine organization presented his nephew and niece Ted and Carol Beecher a plaque in a touching ceremony during the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Walt Disney.”
RAYMOND ARNOLD DISNEY was one of the older brothers of the great entertainment legend Walt Disney(Walter Elias Disney). Among others, his close family included his beloved spouseMeredith A. Boyington Disney. He had two sons Charles Elias Disney who was named for Raymond's father who was Elias Charles Disney and one adopted son Daniel Harwood Disney. Raymond had two grandsons Charles Roy "Charlie" DisneyandCristian Petrea Disney.

Raymond's parents wereElias Charles DisneyandFlora Call Disney.Elias and Flora were very loving, and they always were happy with their children and their respective spouses.

It was in Kansas City, Missouri whereEdna Francis Disneyand Meredith A. Boyington both worked at The Kansas City Times newspaper and they became great friends. AtRoy Oliver Disney'ssuggestion, Edna introduced Roy's older brother Raymond to Meredith at a church social. After dating one another for a year or so, and falling in love, Raymond and Meredith were married in a small family gathering, and Edna and Roy attended their nuptials, performed by an Episcopal Priest, and both couples were very happy and often they would socialize together and they remained close family and friends for the rest of their lives, respectively! Meredith, Edna, andLillian Bounds Disney(Walt's wife) remained close for the rest of their lives!

Raymond owned his own very successful insurance business for over forty-five years on North Vermont Avenue in Los Angeles, California. He handled most of the insurance for his brothers Walt and Roy and for their original Disney Bros. Studio in 1923 and later for Walt Disney Productions in Burbank. Raymond was a close confidant and he advised brothers Walt and Roy throughout their lives and especially in the early years of Disney Bros. Studio and Walt Disney Productions. He really enjoyed spending much time with his brothers as they originally established what was to become the vast Disney Entertainment Enterprises, now known as The Walt Disney Company.

Raymond, like his brother Walt, also greatly admired Abraham Lincoln and he worked alongside his brother Walt when the "Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln" exhibit was created for the Illinois Pavilion for the 1964 New York World's Fair and later in 1965 when the Lincoln exhibit was moved to Disneyland in Anaheim, California, just a little more than one year before Walt Disney passed away. This exhibit was expanded but remains in Anaheim to this day!

Of course, Raymond was greatly saddened when his parents and each one of his siblings passed away respectively, and he deeply missed them for the rest of his own life. Walt and Roy were both younger than Ray. Herbert was the oldest of the Disney children and Ruth was the youngest and the only girl sibling. Raymond lived longer than each of his siblings!

Raymond served in the U. S. Army during World War I. He was an active member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Kansas City.

Early in life Raymond was a bank teller in Kansas City, Missouri at the Southwest National Bank of Commerce and the First National Bank at 10th & Baltimore Ave. in downtown Kansas City, the same bank where his brother Roy Oliver Disney was also a teller. Today, this bank building remains intact and is the Central Library of Kansas City. He always had a "soft spot" for Kansas City and would visit there numerous times across his lifetime including when he and his brother Walt and his wife Lilly met with Frank S. Land, the founder of the International Order of DeMolay. Walt was honored by Land with the DeMolay Legion of Honor. Raymond was also a strong advocate for the Order of DeMolay!

Raymond was a member of St. Augustine by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Santa Monica. He funded a large most beautiful and quite spectacular and popular meditation flower garden for many years that was so prominent in the churchyard filled with so many native blooming flowers for each season.

He was a very kind and generous gentleman! Ray had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed making people happy. Raymond and Meredith both loved cats and dogs and would always help strays find homes (often in their own home) that seemed to find their way to their door! They both made very generous donations to local animal shelters for many years.

Raymond was quite active in the Masonic Lodge and in the Los Angeles, California Shriner's Al Malaikah Shrine Temple A. A. O. N. M. S. activities across many years. He was a member of the Royal Order of Jesters and he participated in "The Book of the Play." He was really so proud of the fact that he enjoyed a personal meeting with Frank S. Land, the founder of the International Order of DeMolay with headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri. Ray bequeathed a very considerable amount of his large estate to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children in Los Angeles and the Shriner's Children's Burn Hospital in Galveston, Texas.

Raymond was 98 when he passed from this life on May 24, 1989 at his home in Santa Monica, California, with his son Charles Elias Disney at his side.

Raymond's funeral service was held in the Little Church of the Flowers in Forest Lawn Memorial-Park in Glendale, California on Saturday, May 27, 1989. The Episcopal Church Book of Common Prayer was the source of Raymond's funeral service. Also, a Royal Order of Jester's Rose Ceremony and a Masonic Service followed the religious services. His remains were then entombed in the Freedom Mausoleum in the Sanctuary of Prayer Room close to the garden where Walt and Lillian and other family members are entombed. Everything at Forest Lawn was, as always, so beautiful and quite uplifting!

Some other members of Ray's family are elsewhere in Forest Lawn Memorial-Parks in Glendale and Hollywood Hills, California. His spouse, who was Meredith A. Disney, is entombed in the Risen Christ Mausoleum in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Culver City, California, and other family members are in numerous other cemeteries in California and elsewhere.

"May Raymond Rest In Peace!"

The Lives of Walt Disney's Siblings: Herbert Disney, Raymond Disney, Roy Disney and Ruth Disney

Though the Disney family has carried along their family name through Walt Disney and his great success of the creation of the Walt Disney Company, their legacy is shared amongst Walt’s parents and 4 other siblings. Though Walt’s relationship with his parents was strained at times due to his father’s strict work ethic, he was able to appreciate his behaviors as he grew into a business man, and leaned on the support of his older brothers Roy for financial matters, and Raymond for insurance matters. Walt and his little sister Ruth had a unique relationship, a close bond cemented by annual birthday letters Walt would send to her each year. Let’s take a look at each Disney sibling and their connection to the company.

HERBERT ARTHUR DISNEY AND RAYMOND ARNOLD DISNEY

With the marriage of Elias and Flora, they moved to Acron, Florida, and immediately began to build their family. Their first born, Herbert Arthur Disney, was born on December 8, 1888. After the birth of their very first child, they moved to Chicago, where they had their second son, Raymond Arnold Disney on December 30, 1890. Both Herbert and Raymond served in the U.S Army during WWI. Herbert later on became a prominent figure in the US postal service. Herbert and Raymond moved to Marceline, Missouri after leaving their family in Chicago, and eventually moved to Kansas City when the rest of the family made the move. Herbert met and married Louise R. Rast in Kansas City, and they had a daughter named Dorothy in 1915. The 3 of them moved to Oregon for a short time with Elias and Flora, but they all moved to and spent the rest of their lives in North Hollywood, California to be closer to the rest of the family.

Raymond owned an insurance company for 45 years and worked for First National Bank where his younger brother, Roy Disney, would one day work as well. Edna Francis Disney, Roy’s eventual wife, introduced Raymond to his wife-to-be Meredith A. Boyington. The couple married in December 1935, and had 2 children: Charles Elias Disney and Daniel Harwood Disney. Raymond’s time working in insurance allowed him to provide knowledge and support to the family’s company in later years. Both Herbert and Raymond were close with their younger siblings and kept close ties to the Walt Disney Company through their family and business matters. Raymond was a great admirer of Abraham Lincoln and had a hand in the creation of the 1964 World’s Fair exhibit The Greatest Moments with Mr. Lincoln.

Disney Productions developed in the 1930s. Disney would use his insurance policies as collateral to raise cash in 1952 in order to plan and build Disneyland (1955). Walt purchased his policies fromhis older brother, Raymond. Raymond had left home when he was 17 and eventually started an insurance agency in Chicago. Walt and brother Roy, who was Walt's partner in the production company, saw an influx of Disney relatives -- Ray moved his agency from Chicago to Los Angeles. Their oldest brother Herbert planned to retire there and sent his daughter to Walt and Roy for a job. The senior Disneys (Elias and Flora) moved from Oregon to a California home that Walt and Roy bought for them. Disneyland evolved over a period of nearly 20 years. In 1952, Walt organized WED Enterprises, Inc. to begin planning his dream amusement park. Disneyland opened on July 17, 1955. Although we do not know ifConnecticut Generalever accepted Walt Disney as a client, we do know that in March 1940 he had a $50,000 ordinary life insurance policy with Manufacturer's Life Insurance. That policy had an "Automatic Premium Loan" that was available to Disney under the terms of the policy. Embossed seal touches the "D" in Disney. ÂĽ paper separation at bottom, staple hole upper left.
