Freshly restored with a bowl coat applied to the chamber for another lifetime of use!
This stacked billiard, the rarely seen “Edgware” shape from Sasieni is from the family era after Alfred took over the company following his father’s passing. The four dot line of pipes went through a series of nomenclature changes, the first being the change from the fishtail logo, the second is the removal of the patent number, and the third being the inclusion of the name of the finish after “four dot.”
This pipe is very obviously a “four dot rustic” but there is no finish name after the “four dot.” so I would place this pipe as being made some time around the 1950s.
Their most sought after finish, Sasieni’s hand rustication was intended to follow the natural grain of the briar stummel and is known as the finest rusticated finish to ever exist. In its time, it was priced on the same level as their natural finish and persisted from the very beginning of the company’s existence.
The chamber walls are thin, hence the bowl coat, and the stem has been chewed on a fair amount, but there is no bite through. Otherwise, this pipe is in wonderful condition and is certainly an unmissable addition to your sasieni collection!
