FROM THE EXECUTIVE RESIDENCE AT THE WHITE HOUSEWhite House “Minuet” Sterling Spoon — Engraved “President’s House,” c. 1926–1984
This Sterling silver tablespoon, from the Executive Residence, the official private living space used by the President and First Family while in the White House measures 8½ long by International Silver (“International Sterling” back-mark), in the Minuet pattern. This flatware was selected for White House use exclusively in the private residence by Calvin Coolidge and regularly used by every succeeding President through Ronald Reagan. In addition to its use by Presidents and First Families, it was also used during several visits by Winston Churchill as well as other VIPs who ate and stayed in the White House Residence. Churchill specifically had several extended stays at the White House, occupying the residence during the Roosevelt (FDR) and Eisenhower Administrations. This flatware is Script-engraved with “President’s House” on the handle—wording documented on Executive Residence silver. Grace Coolidge\'s nod to the original name of the White House.Imagine owning such a historical item that has been held and used by eleven, yes 11, different US Presidents, their families, and all those other historical figures who at some point ate and stayed in the residence of the White House. There were a limited number of flatware used exclusively in the living quarters of the White House. This spoon was in that limited number.Provenance: From a private collection of presidential memorabilia. This spoon left the White House during Ronald Reagan\'s first term of office. It comes from a White House Staff member who served in the Reagan and both Bush administrations. Unconditionally guaranteed to be an authentic piece of White House flatware.
