⛏️ LATE 1800’S KELLY’S GOLD CIGAR BOX — EMPTY 🇨🇦
🌄 The treasure is inside! This late 1800’s wooden Kelly’s Gold cigar box features a striking colour lithograph of three gold prospectors working beside a rocky stream, with log cabins, rugged mountains and a glowing sunset behind them.
🖼️ The interior artwork is the standout feature, with rich colour and wonderful detail throughout. Kelly’s Gold mining imagery appears in specialist cigar-label collecting references and has also been documented on large period advertising lithographs — giving this piece appeal to collectors of early printed advertising, mining scenes and Canadian tobacco history.
🍁 Manufactured by Wm. Kelly & Sons of London, Ontario, originally holding 50 cigars. The interior label bears a printed 1883 registration date and the printer’s credit “Duncan Lith. Co., Hamilton,” connecting this piece with two Ontario cities. The registration date refers to the design rather than confirming the box’s exact manufacture year.
✨ A smaller mining illustration appears on the end, while gold-coloured “Kelly’s Gold Brand” lettering decorates the lid. Wooden construction with illustrated paper labels and red paper edging.
📜 Retains its Canadian revenue strip marked “Fifty Cigars,” with “Factory No. 5 — I.R.D. 32” markings underneath.
📸 The main interior lithograph retains strong colour. The box shows age-related staining, worn edges, paper losses and torn interior lining. Please review the photos closely for condition.
📦 Empty box — sold as a collectible.
