[Judaica] Hebrew Ladies\' Sewing Society 1881 Boston Fundraising Ball For Sale

Calico balls were a common type of fundraiser run by Jewish ladies’ sewing societies in the late 19th century. These were fundraising events.

Offering a 3 7/8 x 4 ticket to the Third Annual Calico Ball of the Hebrew Ladies’ Sewing Society at Horticultural Hall on Wednesday Evening, March 9, 1881. “Dancing to commence at 9 o’clock. Tickets $3.00, admitting one Gentleman and two Ladies. Not transferrable.” Beautiful design in sepia tone of a fisherman’s boat and a sailboat on the water with an island in the background. The club’s initials H.L.S.S. are stamped on the verso. The ticket has been printed on card stock.
