Offered as one complete historical collection is an eight-item group relating to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, the Dallas Police Department investigation and Lee Harvey Oswald.
The collection includes four officially produced Dallas Municipal Archives photographic prints, three reproduced Dallas Police Department records and one 1992 “JFK TODAY” Dallas newspaper.
The origin and approximate production period of the four photographs have been directly confirmed in writing by John H. Slate, CA, City Archivist for the Dallas Municipal Archives.

OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED PHOTOGRAPHIC PRINTS
Each photograph has a credit stamp on its reverse reading:
“CREDIT LINE:
DALLAS MUNICIPAL ARCHIVES AND RECORDS CENTER
CITY OF DALLAS, TEXAS
NEG. #”
Each reverse also carries a handwritten red identification number beginning with 91-001. These markings are displayed clearly in the listing photographs.
The Dallas City Archivist has confirmed the following information:
• The 91-001 numbers correspond to photographic negative or print identification numbers within the Dallas Police Department JFK assassination collection.
• The physical photographs were made by a professional photographic laboratory in Dallas under contract to the Dallas Municipal Archives.
• The credit stamps and handwritten identification numbers were applied by Dallas Municipal Archives staff.
• The stamp appearing on these photographs was used from 1992 until approximately 2000. Therefore, these physical prints were produced sometime during that period.
• The Archives maintained master copy negatives to preserve the original photographs and negatives and to produce research prints.
• These photographs were official archival research copies routinely available to members of the public. They were not limited-edition or restricted-distribution prints.
A printed, redacted copy of the written correspondence from the Dallas City Archivist will be included with the collection.

LEE HARVEY OSWALD IN THE MORGUE

The corresponding record in the Portal to Texas History is officially titled “Oswald in Morgue [Print].” The archival print record is identified as 91-001_408 and is related to the source negative identified as 91-001_168.
The archival catalog dates the original image to approximately 1963. The physical research print offered in this collection was produced between 1992 and approximately 2000.

LEE HARVEY OSWALD DALLAS POLICE MUGSHOT

TEXAS SCHOOL BOOK DEPOSITORY AND DEALEY PLAZA AREA

The Dallas Municipal Archives/Portal to Texas History identifies the related archival image as “Texas School Book Depository [Print #1],” with local control number 91-001_368.
The archival description notes the Texas School Book Depository, vehicles traveling away from the building, surrounding buildings and the photographer’s shadow near the lower portion of the image.
The original image is cataloged as dating to approximately 1963. The physical archival research print in this lot was produced between 1992 and approximately 2000.
VIEW FROM THE TEXAS SCHOOL BOOK DEPOSITORY
A black-and-white photograph looking through a window toward Dealey Plaza and the surrounding Dallas roadways.
Vehicles can be seen traveling along Elm Street and Main Street. Portions of the window structure and building are visible in the foreground, giving the image a clear elevated perspective from the Texas School Book Depository.
The official Portal to Texas History title is “View from the Texas School Book Depository,” with local control number 91-001_079.
The original image is cataloged as dating to approximately 1963. The physical research print offered here was produced between 1992 and approximately 2000.
IMPORTANT PHOTOGRAPHIC TERMINOLOGY
These are genuine Dallas Municipal Archives-produced photographic prints. They were made by a Dallas photographic laboratory working under contract to the Municipal Archives, and the stamps and handwritten numbers were applied by Archives staff.
They should accurately be described as:
“Official Dallas Municipal Archives archival research photographic prints produced between 1992 and approximately 2000 from images in Dallas Police Department JFK Collection 91-001.”
They are not being represented as:
• Original physical prints made in 1963
• First-generation police crime-scene photographs
• Original police evidence removed from official files
• Limited-edition photographs
• Numbered collector editions
• Restricted press or presentation copies
The circa-1963 dates appearing in the online archival records refer to the creation of the original images, not the production date of these particular physical research prints.
ABOUT COLLECTION 91-001
The 91-001 designation identifies the Dallas Municipal Archives collection titled:
“Dallas Police Department Records Related to the Assassination of John F. Kennedy, 1963–1992.”
The Dallas Police Department transferred its JFK assassination records to the Dallas Municipal Archives. The collection includes police reports, procedural records, witness statements, photographs, negatives, evidence inventories and other investigative material relating to President Kennedy, Lee Harvey Oswald and Jack Ruby.
The numbers following 91-001 identify individual photographs, negatives, prints or other records within the larger collection. They are archival reference numbers—not limited-edition numbers.

JOHN F. KENNEDY HOMICIDE-RELATED REPORT
A reproduced Dallas Police homicide-related record concerning the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
LEE HARVEY OSWALD HOMICIDE REPORT
A reproduced Dallas Police Department homicide report identifying Lee Harvey Oswald as the deceased and documenting the circumstances surrounding his shooting and subsequent death.
The report describes Oswald being transferred from the Dallas city jail for transportation to the county jail when Jack Ruby approached and shot him. It also references Parkland Hospital and the medical treatment following the shooting.
LEE HARVEY OSWALD ARREST/INVESTIGATIVE-PRISONER REPORT
A reproduced Dallas Police arrest report dated November 22, 1963.
The document includes:
• Lee Harvey Oswald’s name
• His age and date of birth
• His home address
• The location where the arrest was made
• The Texas Theatre
• The investigative murder charge
• Names and identification numbers of Dallas Police officers
• A handwritten account referencing President John F. Kennedy, Dallas Police Officer J. D. Tippit and Texas Governor John Connally
These police documents are historical reproductions or photocopies. They are not being represented as the original handwritten or typewritten police records physically created in 1963.
1992 “JFK TODAY” NEWSPAPER
Also included is a Dallas, Texas “JFK TODAY” special newspaper with a printed cover price of $3.00.
Prominent front-page wording includes:
“The Mystery of the Three Hobos: Solved?”
“Dallas Files Open – Documents Found Inside”
The front page features a large photograph of President Kennedy’s motorcade traveling through Dallas, accompanied by motorcycle officers and Secret Service personnel.
The newspaper relates to the intense public interest surrounding the Dallas assassination records and the opening of the Dallas files during 1992.
CONDITION
The entire collection remains in very good overall collectible condition considering its age and subject matter.
The photographic prints remain clear and display well. The backs retain their Dallas Municipal Archives credit stamps and handwritten red archive numbers.
The newspaper and reproduced documents may show normal light handling, storage, edge, corner, fold or age-related wear. No attempt has been made to clean, alter, retouch or restore the historical materials.
Please examine all listing photographs carefully. The photographs show the exact items the buyer will receive and are an important part of the condition description. Front and back views are provided so buyers can inspect the images, archive stamps, handwritten numbers, printing, edges and corners.
PROVENANCE AND DOCUMENTATION
The collection was acquired together as one group. The four photographs were subsequently researched through the Dallas Municipal Archives.
Written confirmation from the Dallas City Archivist establishes that:
• The photographs were produced under contract for the Dallas Municipal Archives
• The credit stamps were applied by Archives staff
• The handwritten numbers identify images within Collection 91-001
• The stamp was used from 1992 until approximately 2000
• The prints were routinely available archival research copies
The reproduced police reports and “JFK TODAY” newspaper were found with the photographs. No claim is being made that all of the items were originally distributed together by the Dallas Municipal Archives.
A redacted printed copy of the archivist’s correspondence will accompany the collection so the buyer can retain the available provenance with the items.
