Wonderfully early (1900-1910) unusual Abenaki/Mohawk (possibly Penobscot--but I don\'t think so)--sewing basket. Bought at a high-end Merrill Amerind sale in Burlington, Vermont several years ago.
Basket has all the bells and whistles that one would desire in an early basket of this sort--note in the photos--the raised level and multiple interior woven pockets that are attached to each side. Beautiful oak handle on each side of the ashe basket as well.
For a very unusual basket of this age--remarkably there are only a very few broken culeques around the basket,,,just really nice condition all the way around--a tad dusty but the new owner can wash it.
Thanks for looking and this would make a wonderful addition to anyone collecting Northeastern Amerind Indian baskets...
Thanks once again and if you have any questions--please do not hesitate toa sk them--oh I almost forgot---size-wise...the basket is 11 inches handle to handle and 6 inches tall.
Thanks
