TimelessFinding · English Design & Classical StyleWedgwood Blue Jasperware Figural Lamp Bases

A dramatic decorative pair combining two shades of iconic blue jasperware, crisp white classical reliefs, sculptural metal figures and flower-form glass bobeches.

Architectural statement pieces with a layered history

These tall decorative lamp components unite cylindrical Wedgwood blue jasperware bases with white applied neoclassical scenes, dark bronze-tone female figures, scrolling supports, gilt-metal socket fittings and clear pressed-glass bobeches. The two bases are related rather than perfectly identical: one is a soft periwinkle blue and the other a deeper cobalt blue, giving the pair the character of a thoughtfully assembled decorative set. At least one photographed underside bears the impressed WEDGWOOD / MADE IN ENGLAND mark.

The blue jasperware bases show surface marks, light soiling, scuffs and wear; the white applied reliefs should be examined closely for small age-related imperfections. The metal figures, curved arms, socket fittings and collars have patina, oxidation, rubbing and finish wear. The clear pressed-glass bobeches show edge chips or losses, including a visible damaged area, and their wire retaining clips appear bent or mismatched. Hardware and threaded fittings differ between the two pieces. No cords, plugs, bulbs or shades are present, and electrical function has not been tested. Professional inspection, rewiring and appropriate replacement components are required before any attempt at use. Please enlarge every original photograph and watch the original video, paying special attention to the glass edges, relief decoration, metal joins, fittings, undersides and maker\'s mark. The photographs show the exact pieces and form an essential part of the condition description.Three fascinating detailsBorn from thousands of trialsJosiah Wedgwood perfected jasperware in 1774 after thousands of recorded experiments. Its dense stoneware body can be colored throughout rather than receiving its blue only as a surface glaze.Classical relief was the pointThe matte colored body offered an ideal ground for fine white reliefs inspired by Greek and Roman art, helping Wedgwood become closely identified with the neoclassical interiors of its era.The mark narrows the dateThe impressed “MADE IN ENGLAND” wording is associated with Wedgwood production from the early twentieth century onward. It supports English origin but does not, by itself, justify the former 1850–1899 date.Glass, metal and ceramic will be protected separatelyThe delicate bobeches and removable socket fittings will be detached where safely possible, wrapped individually and isolated from every metal projection. Curved arms and figures will receive shaped cushioning without bearing weight. Each jasperware base will be protected in multiple soft layers, separated from its companion and immobilized with generous clearance inside a strong reinforced box. Tracking will be included.TimelessFinding
