A well started juvenile Arizona blonde tarantula (Aphonopelma chalcodes), commonly called a \"sling,\" is an exceptionally slow-growing, hardy, and docile terrestrial spider native to the American Southwest. At hatching, they are roughly the size of a pencil eraser and lack the signature blonde coloration of adults, appearing mostly translucent or uniform brown.

Essential Care Guidelines

• Housing: Keep very small slings in a small vial (like a 50-dram vial) or a tiny flip-top enclosure with deep, slightly damp substrate to allow burrowing.

• Feeding: Offer pinhead crickets, fruit flies, or pre-killed parts of larger insects (like mealworm pieces) 2–3 times a week, removing uneaten food the next day.

Venom:

While capable of delivering a painful bite if provoked, their venom is harmless and poses no serious threat to human health.
