Scowen, showing a coffee estate in Dimbula, a waterfall, and a bridge over a river in Peradinya Gardens, each with attractive hand-painted border, c1890.Three original albumen photographs. Two signed in the negative, one of these also titled in the negative: 'Niagara / Dimbula - Scowen' and 'C. Scowen'. The third unsigned but from the same album. in the negative, with photographer's name beneath. Borders hand-painted in a 'snake skin' design with floral motifs - two in grey and red, and the other in ochre. Versos blank. Undated but c1890. Contemporary manuscript pen in lower captions in lower border of two photographs: 'Peradinya Gardens, Ceylon' and 'Coffee plantation - Ceylon'.Size:photographs - cm x cm / card mounts -cm x cm. Tones very good. Light curvature to mounts.Three large and very well preserved albumen photographs of scenes in Ceylon, each with an attractive hand painted border and extracted from the same Charles Scowen album, c1890. Dimbula was the location of Julia Margaret Cameron's estate.
