Zuni att THEODORE EDAAKIE Ted Edaakie Roadrunner Tie Clip Channel Inlay 1940-50s:
$449.00

Welcome!

I\'m offering for your consideration a fabulous very old Zuni roadrunner tie clip dating back to the 1940s or 1950s. It was made by master stone/silversmith Ted Edaakie, who began producing in about 1930. Theodore Edaakie, called Ted Edaakie, had work represented in the C.G.Wallace catalog for the important Sotheby\'s sale in 1975 of CG Wallace\'s personal collection, the Museum of The American Indian Smithsonian Institution, The Museum of New Mexico and The Heard Museum in Arizona. Edaakie won several awards for his work. The C.G. Wallace catalog also reports the sale of two of his roadrunner pins. Yes, they would have been pins like this one which was made into a tie clip. In the 1930\'s and 1940\'s Theodore Edaakie was employed as an artist at C. G. Wallace\'s Trading Post at Zuni. Mosaic and channel inlay pieces that Theodore made were collected by Wallace and several were sold at the 1975 Sotheby\'s sale of Wallace\'s collection. He was one of the famous Edaakie brothers. He was a superb lapidarist as well as silversmith and the stones on this pin are superb. They look as if there were a thick enamel applied rather than the inlay of stones. Within this piece, there is use of a beautiful turquoise alone, except fot the jet eye. The stones are all hand cut and buffed and have three dimensionality. He had a great talent for color. The silver work is also special. There is his characteristic stamp work on flattened stamped wires that frame the top of the roadrunner. The stamp work is identifiably his and his alone. I have owned his roadrunner before, including in a bracelet and I include in the above pictures one of his roadrunners currently available separately in my store. I also have two of his owl bolos and his owl pendant in my store now. His roadrunner and owl were in the Sotheby\'s sale. This tie clip is a book piece and it\'s more versatile than you might think in that it can be worn on a pocket or in the slit of a shirt as well as a tie.

This pin is about 3/4\" tall and about 1-1/2\" wide. Weight is3.9grams. It is unsigned and not marked for silver content, which is usual for that age. The attribution to Ted Edaakie is made with some confidence and the metal is at least coin silver at .900 but probably sterling silver at .925 for the roadrunner itself, but not the clip, which is probably not silver. It is springy!

The condition is excellent wearable vintage collectible with minor age related wear. It\'s a gorgeous piece.

Highly collectible! This was made by one of the all time great masters. This could easily become a signature piece; you could wear every day. This one is so much better in person. It\'s a treasure and very rare example in the tie clip, which one could wear on a shirt or a pocket as well as a tie. Exquisite.

I request payment by PayPal in two days, but planned in advance of purchase, alternate payment methods and time payments can generally be arranged.

I generally ship same day. Domestic: FREE shipping with Tracking always and Signature Confirmation included on shipments over $749.

International buyers pay actual shipping cost if I’m shipping myself rather than using ’s Global Shipping service, and International buyers are responsible for any customs fees their own countries may apply. Please discuss changing shipping method prior to purchase. My shipping defaults to Express International, which is tracked and insured, but I can use Priority Mail International. It\'s less expensive and is also tracked. First Class International is no longer offered by the US Postal Service. I charge the actual shipping cost and since shipping to each country costs a different amount, I will charge a little extra and refund the exact difference once I can put your address in and print a shipping label. I am no longer shipping to Italy and China, but can make exceptions if you speak with me about it, especially if you are a prior customer.

I\'m no longer accepting returns having refunded $1350 for a bracelet I never received. Returns must be in the same condition they were shipped. If I make a significant mistake in a listing I\'ll always give you a full refund. The 20% restocking fee does not apply when the mistake is mine. I care that you\'re happy and about my accuracy, and will always stand behind my work. My attributions are guaranteed for my lifetime.

When I include pages from published books in my listings it is in accordance with Fair Use Law, which permits the use of source material for discussion, reference, education and criticism.

Attributions on many of the old pieces of Native American jewelry are sometimes a moving target. All the books have errors, so in addition to counterchecking, I have developed some expertise over the years and I do care about getting it right, so as more information comes to light I update my listings and also get in touch with my previous buyers, to inform them of any changes in attributions. I am sincerely committed to ongoing accuracy.

Everything I sell comes from my personal collection or is something that I would include in my personal collection. Most pieces are museum worthy and gallery suitable, sold to you at great pricing. I vet every item carefully for quality and condition, and offer you the best. I want you to be able to rely on me for top quality, superb items that are often unique and rare examples of old antique vintage southwest, indian, native american and fine gold and gemstones, whether you\'re starting a collection or adding to one, or want something great to wear or gift. My goal is that all my buyers are delighted, that my special pieces find the right homes.
