Whitall Tatum & Co. Wooden Box Stamped “Pat. Aug 15, 1885 W/ Serial # See Desc For Sale

This box is definitely a collectors item. It has the stamp that is from 1885 and clear as day. To look and hold something from almost 150 years ago is beyond cool. This wooden box is in good condition for its old age. The handle is intact. The swing locks are intact and still in working order. However there are obvious issues to report. There are 2 cracks in the wood. I have taken pictures of both. They do not affect the functionality of the box at all. Also there are scuffs and a couple small scratches. I am not sure what this box was used for. There isn’t much info I can find on it but any and all questions are welcome.
