In 1978, the first Ralph Lauren fragrances, produced by Warner-Lauren, Ltd were launched at Bloomingdale's. Lauren for women, and Polo the men's cologne. This was the first time that a designer introduced two fragrances – one for men and one for women – simultaneously.

This is Lauren by Lauren. It was initially introduced in 1978 in both cologne and pure perfume concentrations in either spray and splash bottles. Lauren was loved and worn by a generation of woman, and is identified by its fresh notes, Lilac/Lily-of-the-Valley accord, and a sweet woody mossy base. It was discontinued in the early 2000s, but was later brought back in an Eau de Toilette concentration which was commonly available in a 4.2oz or 120ml spray bottle. The formula was slightly weakened from the original and did not include the now highly restricted Oakmoss. Still, it was very evocative of the first formula and people bought it happily.
Then, a terrible thing happened in about 2018–19. The new Eau de Toilette formula was discontinued as well, leaving admirers of this beautiful perfume to fight it out in online sales. The current going rate, IF you can find an authentic bottle, or one that has not been refilled, is about $400 for the 4.2oz size.
