Here is a superb piece of genuine frill bone from a Triceratops, from the late Cretaceous, as late as 66 million years ago, the end of the Reignof Dinosaurs.
The frill was the huge saucer-shaped bones at the back of the head of the Triceratops. You can't miss it. It provided defense and possibly used for mating. To get nutrition, blood grooves ran through the frill providing nutrients.
This particular specimen has world-class blood grooves. They are about as good as they get. No paint or restoration has been used. There are cheaper pieces of frill around, but not many better at any price.
It measures about3.4 inches across. It is from the Hell Creek Formation, near Glendive, Montana. A couple slight cracks in the matrix. Also, the rounded edge shows that this is the edge of the frill.
You also get a free genuine Triceratops tooth.
Both in a Riker mount for excellent protection and presentation.
Triceratops is one of the most famous of all dinosaurs, withits huge head, tough bony frill, and three sharp horns in the front. The movie,Jurassic Park, features a sick Triceratops that Ellie cared for.
The largest Triceratops grew to over 28 feet inlength, and weighed up to 13 tons. It was, however, a plant-eater, with abeaked jaw and hundreds of teeth (up to 800) packed closely together forchewing the plants.
